Taking a break from that stupid gearbox bolt....thought I'd plug up all those crap emission related holes in the intake manifold with some good ol' fashioned bolts
Hmm...another thing I forgot - Valve clearances! One feeler gauge set at 0.25mm (cold) and test all the valves. 1st get engine to TDC (line up line of the crank pulley). Then the valves of cylinder 4 will be 'one the rock' (one just closing and the other just opening - like Photo 4)
Its then following firing order, when 2 is on the rock check 3; 1 on the rock check 4; when 3 is rocking check 2: 1-3-4-2
Now back to the gearbox bolt....and VICTORY! I got it out.....w000t. How you ask...it heated it up again and instead of a shifter or stillson I thought I'd give vice grips a try. I can now highly recommend the humble vice grip in these situations - locked it onto the bolt then got my foot against it - held onto the front of the car and just reefed with everything I had. The car was creaking on the axle stands....my leg was at breaking point, then BANG it cracked!
So now....fill it up with trans fluid - if your really sneaky do it this way - saves you trying to squirt it stupidly into the hole with those crappy trans bottle nipply things.
A job I forgot to take some pics off was the re-wiring of the ignition....sorry....just took the ignition switch (with a key) and replaced it with a couple of Jaycar switches
So already to go for start! 1st attempt.....hmmm....a lot of fire and a lot of backfiring and a can of start you bastard - but no start. So back to basics - do we have ignition?
