A14 Installation 3                                                                             Last Updated: 02/10/2006
Hmm what's this crappy piece? Some weirdo emissions device - over the shoulder!
Ohh rear heater pipe whilst I'm there - realise I hadn't remember to do that yet
Now after a trip to the wreckers and oil pressure sensor in hand let's clean it up and install it. Out with old in with the new
Thought I'd put the gear stick in as well now that I've bought one from the wreckers too. Pin through with some multigrip persuasion, and circlip on with some pliers (didn't need the circlip pliers)
Remembered to get a rubber boot from the wreckers too! (What I couldn't see were the nylon bushes that tighten up the stick)
I now noticed whilst playing with the gearstick that the clutch was pretty loose so tighten that up
Slap in a new oil and fuel filter, bit of oil
Now fill up tranmission....fuck! God damn tranmission fill plug wont come out! Time for some serious persuation
So I had a go at a couple of methods (didn't take photos of all of them) - pipe on end of spanner, pipe on end of small shifter, pipe on end of big ass shifter, went out and bought a stillson spanner, used my fucking feet against the stillson. All I ended up doing was rounding the plug a shitload....looks like I'll have to take to gearbox out entirely!
I've got a spare fill plug - so the plan now is to take of the gearbox and take it down to someone else to help me...I had admiting defeat!
Not yet will I admit defeat, I've yet to try heat! So I'll file the bolt back to two flat sides, heat it up, spray in some pentrant and have a second crack at this dirtbag.
Well last shot shows the tools I used for this attempt - for the first time a bolt has beaten me - have to weld a nut onto it now - for that the gearbox really has to come out....so for now the next page will show my dodgy how to fill up gearbox with transmission fluid without going for the filler plug.
