Ok now for the brakes I'm doing Disc Brakes
for starters so if you have drums then going to have to wait a while
until I do them.
Jack up the car and place car stands under chassis
rails.
Then take off the tyres using a wheel brace or a rattle
gun like I am using.
And you'll be left with something like this.
Start by taking out those pins that hold the pads out.
Now take out the pads by open up the bleeder valve/screw
to open the pistons so the pads would come out.
Undo the brake line screw. Use a rag so you
can stop it leaking like this.
Undo the screw that holds the caliper to the shroud.
Undo the two bolts that hold the caliper to the hub.
Also loosen the four bolts so later you can split the
caliper in half.
Now the caliper should come off.
Next Cleaning The Calipers.
Firstly undo the four bolts that hold the caliper halves
together.
Now pull them apart.
Remove the seals (mine look pretty stuffed)
Now get the pistons out by putting the air compressor in
the brake line hole and be careful because they go flying.
Now this is what they look like without pistons.
Now to clean these are the cleaning products I'm using.
wear gloves because if you have the same cleaner as me it will burn your
skin its that powerful.
Put into a box to clean. And clean with paint brushes.
Let them soak and rinse with water and dry with a
compressor. They will turn out like this but this is only stage one.
Now to use the drill with a wire attachment on it.
And they should come up like this.
My piston bores look rusty so i went over them with the
wire brush.
Before....
After.
Then before we paint the calipers we prepare them with
this stuff.
Now to paint.
Here is the paint I am using it is called "racing red".
Setup a painting area using cardboard.
Now I am ready to paint them and on goes the first layer
of paint.
Paint the coats in 15-20 minutes intervals and use about
three coats depending on how thick you do it. paint the other caliper
while your waiting.
And this is what I got after the first coat.
And my second coat.
And my third coat.
Now if your painting the inside sticky tape up the bore
holes.
And sticky tape up the bolt holes.
Now paint the inside.
And the outside.
Now putting them back together.
We got new seals to put in.
Dip seals in brake fluid to allow them to go in easier.
Now put the new piston in.
Now put the dust covers on.
Now stretch the metal brace around the dust cover.
Put new brake line seals in.
Put new brake bleeders in.
Now put the four bolts back in. And put the calipers
back together.
Now to put the caliper on the car. Making sure you line
up the brake line and other bolts and screws.
Now do them up. then tighten them with
torque wrench to 50lb/ft.
Do up the brake line nut.
And do up the backing plate screw.
Now to put the brakes pads in. and the securing pins.
