Right so with some CA experience behind me
now I have just a few tasks to do on this motor before attempting to
install it in the 1200 Coupe. Change the timing belt, inspect all the
gaskets and seals and maybe shave the front pulley track of the crank
pulley. The engine was 'rebuild' by the previous owner....and there does
seem to be some evidence of that - so it wont be getting stripped.
First I've got to get it on the engine stand, what I
found was because of the different rocker/cam covers I couldn't get my
chain in the back of the timing cover so had to reduce it to two chains
on the balancer. Not as stable but seems to be the only places I can
lift the motor from without making my own custom fixture.
Get the engine stand fixture bolted on and mount on the
engine stand. Weirdly I have to move the position of the engine stand
arms a little as they didn't fit to the block...I wonder if it means
there are differences between the DE and DET block...
Couple of side views
On to timing belt change. I'll mark up the CAS before
removal (so it can go back in the same spot)
Then start the top timing cover removal - found the one
bolt at the back of the timing cover needs a spanner rather than a
socket. Plus a hex head socket is handy on the front (much handier than
just having an allen key)
Now front pulley - it didn't easily rattle off this
time...wouldn't budge with the rattle gun. So it switched the rattle gun
to forwards then reverse...that time it came undone, phew!
Remove front pulley with a pulley puller if you have one
(all of $15 I think)
